SHINNING THE LIGHT IN DARK PLACES THROUGH MISSION-PART 5. “…how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him” (Acts 10:38).
A missionary entered a community where there was no potable water for the people. He made efforts with members of his team to provide potable water not just for the Mission Base but also for the people in the community who were in dire need. As evangelism work progressed in that community, it came to a stage that they needed to organise a church for the disciples. Initially, there was a resistance by the community because their ancestors had already said that there would never be a church in that community, so every effort by different people in the past to organise a church had failed. Simply because of the act of good work by this Mission group in providing water for them, the people in the community not only became open to the gospel, but they also accepted for the Mission group to organise a church for the believers. That is what an act of good work can do among nations.
1. The cry of the people:
Different communities among different unreached people cry for different needs. Some communities do not have adequate medical facilities within a close proximity. Some suffer lack of good educational facilities while some lack good and accessible road to their location. All these seeming lack do not only contribute to the people’s deep spiritual darkness but also aggravate their social darkness as well. The unreached people are sometimes cut off from regular and normal life due to geographical and social barriers. This state of great depravity in different ways often makes it very difficult to preach the gospel to them.
2. The love of missionaries:
When a missionary enters a people group to preach the gospel to them in the midst of these needs, he must not be indifferent to the needs of the people if he is to achieve a desired success among the people. The missionary must first demonstrate the love he has gone to preach to the people by responding to their needs. We have cases where missionaries establish schools for the people, provide teachers and give free education to the people. We also have cases where missionaries provide basic medical care for the people. There are cases where missionaries serve indirectly as agent of change by giving some counselling services in different ways on how the people can improve their living.
3. The building of God’s kingdom:
The overall purpose of a missionary work is to build God’s kingdom. There are two kingdoms on earth, the kingdom of God and the kingdom of the devil. The devil works tirelessly every time and on consistent basis to expand his kingdom on earth. He employs different means to seduce and deceive men so as to make his kingdom attractive to people on earth. It is for this reason that a lot of efforts and work is needed to be able to deliver the people the devil had already taken captive. The missionaries have this mandate of building God’s kingdom whatever it will cost to do it. It is often difficult but with continuous efforts in sacrifice, obedience, love and dedication the kingdom of God is advancing among the unreached nations. God is always looking for people who are willing to join in building his kingdom through their commitment to praying, giving and going. The unreached people of the world are in dire need of committed men. God bless you as you respond to play your own role.
